Ingredient Substitutions
This is the most basic peanut sauce recipe. But it can be adapted to taste and available ingredients.
Peanut Butter Substitute
Use natural peanut butter. There is some leeway in altering water levels, but please remember peanut butter may have different consistency. Other nut butters, such as almond or cashew butter can also be used. But they will affect the flavor of the sauce.
Soy Sauce Substitute
“Tamari” is a great choice of soy sauce alternative. It tastes like the above. But it is slightly sweeter. Another option to consider is coconut aminos.
Lime Juice Substitute
Use fresh lemon juice. It will add some subtle bittersweet taste to the sauce.
Brown Sugar Substitute
Brown sugar can be substituted with honey or maple syrup and/or white sugar.
Chili Sauce Substitute
Use a less pungent condiment. Such as Sriracha, red pepper flakes or none to make it milder.
It’s easy and fast to make at home. It requires few ingredients to make. The addition of a bit of sweetness in it with soy sauce, lime juice and garlic creates a rich and nutty flavor for the sauce. You can modify the basic recipe according to your preference. Tune the lime juice or sweetness. Make spicier or thinner so that it can be used as a salad dressing. It’s an all-purpose and simple sauce that can be used for any meal.
